JMT’s opinion is that it would be prudent for the Dataw community to plan for an outright bridge replacement in the 10-15 year time frame, while also accounting for potential maintenance costs (patching and/or strengthening) in the interim.“- JMT’s Dataw Entry Bridge -Load Rating Report Page 4 DATE 03/23/2023

As Dataw Island continues to grow as a community we hear a call for increasing investment in our infrastructure. While several projects will be necessary over time, it is important that we remain prudent with our spending so as to not force out many residents with increasing, and now, multi-year,special assessment. Many of us spend our days enjoying the gifts Dataw provides as we entrust the future of our island to others with the notion that “they” are looking out for our best interests. We would like to trust our resident member board and administration with thoughtful and well vetted decision making, however TRUSTrequires TRANSPARENCY.

Several concerned Dataw members were shaken by the proposal of a $20M+ bridge replacement and began attending board and committee meetings. Those members quickly discovered numerous irregularities in the evaluation process. We discovered factual data that was not disclosed before our Annual meeting and vote.  Perhaps other more cost effective options have not yet been explored or presented?  As a result, questions have been asked of the Board, and the current administration, but were not answered as clearly and candidly as they should be. This website was created to provide some transparency and clarity in the process.

Why are we trying to spend ourselves into massive assessments building a Dataw Bridge at a cost roughly 40% of the Harbor Island Bridge (3,300 ft)?

-Why is an elevate bridge being proposed that will be several feet higher than the Polowana Road and Dataw Drive?

-Where has all the money collected in the initiation fees, meant for capital expenditures, over the last 4 years gone?
